Validate Wallet Address

Why Validate Before Sending?

Sending crypto to an invalid or incorrect address can result in permanent, irreversible loss of funds. Blockchain transactions cannot be reversed or recalled once confirmed. Always verify the address format before submitting any transaction.

Address Formats Explained

  • Ethereum (EVM): Starts with 0x, followed by exactly 40 hexadecimal characters. Total length: 42 characters. Case-insensitive (checksummed versions use mixed case).
  • Bitcoin (Legacy): Starts with 1 or 3, 26–34 characters long.
  • Bitcoin (SegWit): Starts with bc1, 42 characters long.
  • Solana: 32–44 characters using base58 encoding (no 0, O, I, l).

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Copying only part of an address from a truncated display
  • Sending ETH to a Bitcoin address or vice versa
  • Sending ERC-20 tokens to a contract that cannot handle them
  • Clipboard malware replacing copied addresses (always double-check)
